The “Rampagers” of Strike Fighter Squadron EIGHT THREE (VFA-83) are a U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet squadron. They are a member of Carrier Air Wing Seven and attached to the USS Harry S. Truman and Carrier Strike Group EIGHT. Their home base is Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Rampagers utilize the power and flexibility of the aircraft carrier to deliver air superiority and precision guided munitions all over the globe. The squadron’s slogan is “RAM ON!” Naval Air Station Oceana or NAS Oceana is a military airport located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is a United States Navy Master Jet Base. It is also known as Apollo Soucek Field, named after Lieutenant (later Admiral) Apollo Soucek, a Navy Test Pilot who set the global altitude record in 1930 by flying a Curtiss “Hawk” biplane to an altitude of 43,166 feet. NAS Oceana is the only Master Jet Base on the East Coast.
