The 96th Airlift Squadron (96th AS) is a component of the 934th Airlift Wing at the Minneapolis Saint Paul Air Reserve Station (ARS), which is located at the Minneapolis Saint Paul International Airport. Minnesota is known as the north star state because it has 10,000 lakes, including shoreline on Lake Superior’s north shore. (Also the Mississippi River’s headwaters state). Minnesota’s capital is Saint Paul, and its largest city is Minneapolis; the unit is located in the middle of the two. The 96th AS is also known as the “Flying Vikings” and the “Pillagers of the North”, and their logo resembles the purple and gold NFL team, the Vikings, who play in downtown Minneapolis.
