The 2nd Air Refueling Squadron (2 ARS) is part of the 305th Air Mobility Wing at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey. It operates the KC-10A Extender, supporting the United States Air Force global reach mission world wide through both air refueling and airlift missions. The 2 ARS is the US military’s second oldest flying squadron (all service branches), and is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year. The squadron nickname is “The Duce”, and its motto is “Second to None”. The squadron was originally the “2d Aero Squadron” under the Army Signal Corps, and its first assigned aircraft was the Martin S-Hydro, pre-dating the US Army Air Corps. The first aircraft it flew as an Air Refueling Squadron was the KC-97G Stratotanker. The squadron’s heritage also includes being a part of the “Bataan Death March” when the Japanese invaded the Philippines in World War II.
