[description]San Antonio 12th Training Squadron
The 12th Training Squadron (12 TRS) is part of the 12th Flying Training Wing (12 FTW) at Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) Randolph, Texas.
The mission of the 12 TRS is to motivate, train, and inspire (RPA) Remotely Piloted Aircraft, (PIT) Pilot Instructor Training, and (IFF) Introduction to Fighter Fundamentals students. The squadron name of “Greenhorns” is in reference to the inexperience in the mission as the students training here are “green” in respect to their future careers. However, the Bull symbolizes the hard work and determination demonstrated to get to this point and succeed in their career in the United States Air Force. Students finishing the courses here will eventually go on to fly RPA aircraft such as the MQ-9 Reaper and fighter aircraft such as the F-22 Raptor; some will also go on to be Instructor Pilots in the T-38, T-1, and T-6, training the future of the Air Force.
The 12th TRS traces its lineage to the 12th Technical School Squadron from WWII. During the war, the 12th was responsible for training radio operators who went to fly on Army Air Corp aircraft. The 12th lay dormant for 73 years until August of 2017 when it was reactivated at JBSA-Randolph. The 12th TRS currently provides training and support to all squadrons in the 12th FTW.
