The history of Strike Fighter Squadron FOURTEEN (VFA-14) dates back to the origins of Naval Aviation. Its record of continuous active service began in September of 1919, making it the Navy’s oldest active Squadron.  Since its inception the Squadron has flown 23 different aircraft and operated from 20 different aircraft carriers as well as several battleships, and has had 85 Commanding Officers (the 86th is now in command).  VFA-14 is known as the “Oldest and Boldest” with 96 years of “TOPHATTER” history! The Strike Fighter Squadron 14 (VFA-14) “Tophatters” are a United States Navy fighter attack squadron based at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California. They currently fly the F/A-18E Super Hornet.
