Holloman Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located six miles southwest of the central business district of Alamogordo, New Mexico. It is the home of the 49th Wing of the Air Combat Command. On 9 May 1992, four Lockheed F-117A ‘Nighthawk‘ stealth aircraft from the Tonopah Test Range Airport NV, arrived at Holloman AFB. The F-117 Nighthawk is a single-seat, twin-engine stealth ground-attack aircraft formerly operated by the United States Air Force. (See more below)

A product of Lockheed Skunk Works and a development of the ‘Have Blue’ technology demonstrator, the F-117 was the first operational aircraft to be designed around stealth technology. In February 2006, it was announced that Holloman would cease to be home to the F-117A Nighthawk. This move coincided with an announcement that the F-117 would be removed from service.
