Creech AFB 39 Royal Air Force Squadron

Creech AFB 39 Royal Air Force Squadron

39 Squadron was the first Royal Air Force Squadron to fly the unmanned MQ-9 Reaper. It is based out of Creech AFB, Nevada. Housed within the Squadron are also members of the Royal Air Force 54(R) Squadron Reaper Training Flight . The Squadron flies the MQ-9 Reaper on armed ISR missions around the world. The 24 hour operations of the MQ-9 Reaper make the 39 Squadron Motto “Die Noctuque” (By day and night) seem very apt. The drive to work often take place as the sun sets at the time of day when it looks like somebody has torn the bottom right of the sky.

The MQ-9 Reaper is an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) capable of remotely controlled or autonomous flight operations, developed by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems primarily for the United States Air Force. The MQ-9 and other UAVs are referred to as Remotely Piloted Vehicles/Aircraft (RPV/RPA) by the USAF to indicate their human ground controllers. The MQ-9 is the first “hunter-killer” UAV designed for long-endurance, high-altitude surveillance.
