The 30th Reconnaissance Squadron is part of the 432nd Air Expeditionary Wing at Creech AFB, NV (a small base NW of Las Vegas, NV). It flies the RQ-170 Sentinel, remotely piloted aircraft.
The squadron was originally formed on May 1, 1943 and flew the P-38E Lightning Reconnaissance Aircraft in Europe during WWII. It provided the low-level, detailed imagery used to plan the D-Day invasion and took photographs during the invasion. The squadron also photographed sites in other countries around Europe, including France, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
