The 169th Fighter Wing (169 FW) is a unit of the South Carolina Air National Guard, stationed at McEntire Joint National Guard Base, Columbia, South Carolina. The wing flies the F-16 Fighting Falcon, a single-seat, multipurpose fighter. The 169th is known as the “Swamp Foxes”. The 169 FW if activated to federal service, the is gained by the United States Air Force Air Combat Command.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft. Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft.
