Andrews Air Force Base (Andrews AFB, AAFB) is the airfield portion of Joint Base Andrews, which is under the jurisdiction of the United States Air Force. In 2009, Andrews Air Force Base merged with Naval Air Facility Washington to form Joint Base Andrews. Andrews, located near Morningside, Maryland in suburban Washington, D.C., is the home base of two Boeing VC-25A aircraft with the call sign Air Force One when the president is on board, that serve the President of the United States, and the President is typically flown in and out of Andrews when travelling from Washington, D.C. by plane.
Lineage. Constituted as 756 Bombardment Squadron, Heavy, on 19 May 1943. Redesignated as 756 Bombardment Squadron, Very Heavy on 11 Mar 1947. Redesignated as 756 Bombardment Squadron, Medium on 26 Jun 1949. Redesignated as 756 Troop Carrier Squadron, Medium on 6 May 1954. Redesignated as: 756 Military Airlift Squadron on 1 Oct 1966; 756 Tactical Airlift Squadron on 29 Jun 1971; 756 Military Airlift Squadron on 1 Jul 1986; 756 Airlift Squadron on 1 Feb 1992; 756 Air Refueling Squadron on 1 Oct 2003 to present.
