324th Bomb Squadron “Dear Becky” Metal Nose Art Aircraft Name: “Dear Becky” (42-38128) B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber, was delivered Denver 21/12/43; Las Vegas 26/12/43; Kearney 12/1/44; Assigned 324BS / 91BG [DF-Z] Bassingbourn 25/2/44 as “CUTTY SARK”; re-named after 36 missions to “RED ALERT”; 83m Missing in Action Altenbeken 26/11/44 with Adolph Miller, Co-pilot: Dick Prunty (2 Killed in Action); Tom Bottomley, Alton Lowe, Tom Kincade, Dan Moynihan, Lester Pearson, Bill Hurtley, Glenn Knudson (7 Prisoner of War); enemy aircraft, exploded and crashed Furstenau, Ger; Missing Air Crew Report 10838. The 324th bomb squadron (324BS) was established as a B-17 Flying Fortress heavy bomber squadron in early 1942. It trained under Third Air Force in the southeastern United States with final training under Second Air Force in Washington. The 324th deployed to the European Theater of Operations, where it became part of VIII Bomber Command in England. It was one of earliest American heavy bomber squadrons to arrive in England.
