Langley AFB 94 FS “First To Fight” vintage style military aviation travel poster art by – Squadron Posters!
America’s “Ace of Aces”, Eddie Rickenbacker, was credited with 26 of the squadron’s 67.5 kills flying the Nieuport 28 and later SPAD XIII making the “Hat in the Ring Gang” the most lethal American squadron of the war. The angelic Monument de l’aviation memorializes these victories and the historic St. Stephen’s Cathedral represents the city of Toul. The Lafayette Escadrille Memorial serves as the final resting place for these first American combat aviators. Years later, the 94th mobilized for WWII with the P-38 Lightning in the first ever fighter crossing of the Atlantic during Operation Bolero. The highly decorated squadron campaigned throughout North Africa and Europe earning 124 kills and making 6 Aces.
The 94th has deployed and flown in many conflicts thereafter including the first combat deployment of the F-22 Raptor in 2011. Today the members of the 94 FS are known as “SPADs” in honor of over 100 years of Air Dominance. Joint Base Langley-Eustis is one of the oldest continuously active air bases in the United States, and is located three miles north of the city of Hampton within the greater Hampton Roads region.
