Hurlburt Field V-22 Osprey poster art.

Home of the Air Commandos since 1961, Hurlburt Field Florida today accommodates the 1st Special Operations Wing (1 SOW), Headquarters Air Force Special Operations Command, an Air Force major command, and a number of associate units. Officially designated Eglin Auxiliary Field No. 9, it served as one of the small training fields built on the sprawling Eglin Air Force Range in the 1940s. The 8th Special Operations Squadron is a squadron of the United States Air Force. It is assigned to the 1st Special Operations Wing, Air Force Special Operations Command, stationed at Hurlburt Field, Florida. The squadron is equipped with the CV-22 Osprey in support of special operations. The 8th SOS is one of the oldest units in the U.S. Air Force, being organized as the 8th Aero Squadron on 21 June 1917 at Kelly Field, Tex. The squadron deployed to France and fought on the Western Front during World War I, equipped with United States-built Dayton-Wright DH-4, being used as reconnaissance aircraft. The Dayton-Wright DH-4 was the only American built aircraft used in combat World War I. (See gallery photos)
