The M1 Abrams third-generation main battle tank named for General Creighton Abrams. Highly mobile, designed for modern armored ground warfare, the M1 is well armed and heavily armored. Notable features include a powerful AGT1500 multifuel turbine engine, sophisticated composite armor, and separate ammunition storage in a blow-out compartment for crew safety. Weighing nearly 68 short tons (almost 62 metric tons), it is one of the heaviest main battle tanks in service. The M1 Abrams entered U.S. service in 1980, ultimately replacing the M60 tank. The M1 is the main battle tank of the United States Army and Marine Corps.

The United States Army Armor School is a training school located at Fort Benning, Georgia. Its primary focus is the training of United States Army soldiers, NCOs, and commissioned officers in the operation, tactics, and maintenance of Armor forces and equipment, including the M1 Abrams main battle tank, the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, assorted crew-served and personal weapons, and various other equipment including radios. The school is also the site where U.S. Marines are sent for training on the Abrams tank.

Fort Hood 504th Military Intelligence Brigade vintage style poster art.

The U.S. Army’s 504th Military Intelligence Brigade supports the III Armored Corps and combatant commanders with multidisciplinary intelligence collection, analysis and dissemination. The brigade is based at Fort Hood, Texas, and is comprised of the 163rd and 303rd Military Intelligence Battalions, and a brigade headquarters company.

Fort Hood is located in central Texas, one hour north of Austin, and two hours south of Dallas. The brigade is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2017, after being founded as the 137th Signal Radio Intelligence Company, Aviation, in February 1942. The brigade has earned one Valorous Unit Award and five Meritorious Unit Commendations for service in WWII and Iraq. Additionally, the battalions/brigade have served in Korea, Vietnam, Kosovo and Afghanistan. The 504th’s motto is “Always Ready!”

Much of the III Corps’ power comes through the M1A1 Abrams tank, Bradley Fighting Vehicles and Paladin artillery, and the terrain at Fort Hood is hilly with vegetation and two major lakes nearby.
