Luke AFB 312th FS Scorpions Art

The 312th Fighter Squadron is an active U.S. Air Force unit stationed at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. It currently operates as an F-35A Lightning II training squadron, primarily responsible for training pilots for the Belgian Air Component. Originally activated in July 1942 during World War II, the squadron served as a fighter replacement training unit flying P-39 Airacobras, later transitioning to P-47 Thunderbolts and some P-40 Warhawks, before being disbanded in 1944 as part of an Army Air Forces training reorganization.

The unit was reconstituted in 1984 at Luke AFB as the 312th Tactical Fighter Training Squadron, becoming the USAF’s first F-16C replacement training squadron, operating Block 25 and Block 42 F-16s until its inactivation in January 1991. After more than 30 years inactive, the squadron was redesignated and reactivated in June 2023, returning to Luke AFB to support modern fifth-generation fighter training.

Altus AFB 730th AMTS Art.

The 730th Air Mobility Training Squadron traces its origins to 1943, when it was activated as a B‑17 bombardment unit in the Eighth Air Force and earned a Distinguished Unit Citation for its role in the strategic bombing of Germany. After World War II, it joined the Air Force Reserve, transitioned to the B‑26 Invader, and became one of the first Reserve units mobilized for the Korean War, earning two more Distinguished Unit Citations for interdiction, close air support, and reconnaissance missions. Over the following decades, the squadron adapted to changing missions—serving in reconnaissance, bombardment, and troop carrier roles—and later became an early Reserve associate unit flying the C‑119 and C‑141, supporting global airlift and major operations such as Operation Just Cause until its inactivation in 2005.

Reactivated in 2012 at Altus Air Force Base, the 730th Air Mobility Training Squadron has become a cornerstone of the 507th Air Refueling Wing, delivering advanced instruction on the C‑17, KC‑135, and KC‑46. As one of Altus’s most critical sources of instructor expertise, the squadron now shapes the next generation of Mobility Air Forces aircrew. Through its professionalism, precision, and unwavering commitment to excellence, the 730th continues to carry forward a legacy of service that directly strengthens global mobility and the nation’s ability to respond "Anywhere, Anytime!”
