The Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy, Integration and Requirements (AF/A5) was created in October 2018 to ensure the U.S. Air Force remains aligned to the U.S. National Defense Strategy. The AF/A5 supports the Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force by developing Strategy, guiding USAF international posture, and integrating concepts with warfighter requirements to drive capability development in order to fight and win wars of the future.

The Air Force Distributed Common Ground System (AF DCGS), also referred to as the AN/GSQ-272 SENTINEL weapon system, is the Air Force’s primary intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) planning and direction, collection, processing and exploitation, analysis and dissemination (PCPAD) weapon system. The weapon system employs a global communications architecture that connects multiple intelligence platforms and sensors.  Airmen assigned to AF DCGS produce actionable intelligence from data collected by a variety of sensors on the U-2, RQ-4 Global Hawk, MQ-1 Predator, MQ-9 Reaper and other ISR platforms. The squadron is known as the “Owls”.

The 5-159th General Support Aviation Battalion (GSAB) is the largest Aviation Battalion in the United States Army Consisting of CH-47F Chinook’s, UH-60L Blackhawk’s and HH-60L MEDEVAC Blackhawks’s.  Known as the Dragonmasters the Battalion is spread across five locations to include: Fort Lewis, WA; Fort Knox, KY; Clearwater, FL;  Fort Bragg, NC; and Fort Eustis, VA.

Joint Base Langley–Eustis is a United States military facility located adjacent to Hampton and Newport News, Virginia. The base is an amalgamation of the United States Air Force's Langley Air Force Base and the United States Army's Fort Eustis which were merged on 1 October 2010. Langley is three hours south of Washington DC, one hour north of Virginia beach, in the heart of the Historic Triangle.

Fleet Logistics Support Squadron 56 (VR-56 / FLELOGSUPPRON FIVE SIX), nicknamed "The Globemasters", is a transport squadron under Fleet Logistics Support Wing in the United States Navy. It is a reserve unit composed of both active duty and Selected Reserve sailors and is located at NAS Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The squadron maintains Boeing Next-Generation 737-700C aircraft, designated as the C-40A Clipper. The 27th Fighter Squadron (27 FS) is part of the 1st Fighter Wing based at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. The 27 FS is the oldest fighter squadron in the USAF originating as the 27th Aero Squadron on 8 May 1917. The 27 FS was the first operational squadron to fly both the F-15 Eagle and the F-22 Raptor. The leading ace of the 27 FS in WWI was Lt Frank Luke Jr. nicknamed the “Arizona Balloon Buster”. The leading ace of the 27 FS in WW2 was Lt Thomas Maloney whose P-38 was nicknamed “Maloney’s Pony”. The 12th Aviation Battalion (12th AV) “Wings of Freedom” is based at Davison Army Airfield, Fort Belvoir, Virginia as part of the The Army Aviation Brigade (TAAB). They operate the only VH-60M Blackhawk Helicopters in the Army fleet along with other UH-60 Blackhawk Helicopters where they provide vertical life support to the local area.

The 63rd Intelligence Squadron (63 IS) “RED DRAGONS” are part of the 497th ISRG (DGS 1), headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. As part of the 497th ISRG they deliver real-time high-confidence intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance products to joint forces, coalition forces and other designated government agencies during combat ISR operations. A newer unit, the 63rd was formed in 2013 to meet Total Force Integration efforts by the USAF. Total Force Integration allows guard and reserve members to fully integrate with their active-duty counterparts, working alongside them and backfilling in the case of active-duty deployments or surges in operations. The 63rd IS Squadrons motto “ET IMPROBUS NULLUM REFUGIUM” translates to “TO THE WICKED, NO REFUGE!” The English word "Dragon" comes from the Greek word “Drakeîn”, which means to see clearly. It can also translate to the “one who stares“. The 63rd IS Red Dragons are the all seeing eyes of the USAF defending freedom around the globe! The "Rampagers" of Strike Fighter Squadron EIGHT THREE (VFA-83) are a U.S. Navy F/A-18C Hornet squadron. They are a member of Carrier Air Wing Seven and attached to the USS Harry S. Truman and Carrier Strike Group EIGHT. Their home base is Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Rampagers utilize the power and flexibility of the aircraft carrier to deliver air superiority and precision guided munitions all over the globe. The squadron’s slogan is “RAM ON!" Naval Air Station Oceana or NAS Oceana is a military airport located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and is a United States Navy Master Jet Base. It is also known as Apollo Soucek Field, named after Lieutenant (later Admiral) Apollo Soucek, a Navy Test Pilot who set the global altitude record in 1930 by flying a Curtiss "Hawk" biplane to an altitude of 43,166 feet. NAS Oceana is the only Master Jet Base on the East Coast.
