The MQ-9 Reaper is an unmanned aerial vehicle capable of remote controlled or autonomous flight operations, developed primarily for the U.S. Air Force. The MQ-9 and other UAVs are referred to as Remotely Piloted Vehicles/Aircraft by the USAF to indicate their human ground controllers. The MQ-9 is the first hunter-killer UAV designed for long-endurance, high-altitude surveillance. In 2006, the then–Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force General T. Michael Moseley said: “We’ve moved from using UAVs primarily in intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance roles before Operation Iraqi Freedom, to a true hunter-killer role with the Reaper".

Las Vegas 2 SOS MQ-1 vintage style Heritage poster art.

The 2d Special Operations Squadron (2 SOS) is an Air Force Reserve Command unit, assigned to the 919th Operations Wing. They’re currently minutes away from the sandy white beaches of Florida’s Emerald Coast stationed at Hurlburt Field, Florida, operating the MQ-9 Reaper in support of the Global War on Terrorism. From 2009-2014 the 2 SOS operated the MQ-1 out of Las Vegas, NV (Nellis Air Force Base) depicted in this artwork.

The 2d Special Operations Squadron’s history reaches back to the front lines of WWI as a Balloon Squadron. The unit is one of the oldest units in the United States Air Force, being formed on 25 September 1917 at Fort Omaha, Nebraska. During World War I, the unit was part of the Balloon Section, American Expeditionary Forces (AEF), becoming the first American balloon company to reach the Western Front in France and enter combat. 2d SOS thus holds the distinction among all USAF units of being “the first complete American air unit in history to operate against an enemy on foreign soil.” It was part of the Army Balloon and Airship School after the war, being a balloon training unit until the beginning of World War II. It was later part of the Strategic Air Command during the Cold War.

The General Atomics MQ-1 Predator is an American remotely piloted aircraft built by General Atomics and used primarily by the United States Air Force and Central Intelligence Agency. Initially conceived in the early 1990s for aerial reconnaissance and forward observation roles, the Predator carries cameras and other sensors but has been modified and upgraded to carry and fire two AGM-114 Hellfire missiles or other munitions.

15th Attack Squadron 100th Anniversary Poster Art.

The 15th Attack Squadron (15 ATKS) is part of the 432 Wing at Creech AFB, Nevada. They currently operate the MQ-1B Predator and provide US combatant commanders persistent attack and reconnaissance across the globe. This poster artwork commemorates the 100 year anniversary of the founding of the 15th Attack Squadron on 9 May 2017.

The 15th Reconnaissance Squadron's origins go back to 9 May 1917, (WWI) when it was stood up as the 2d Aviation School Squadron at Hazelhurst Field, Long Island, New York. The original mission of the squadron was part of the defense force for the New York City area, flying coastal patrols and as a flying training unit.

During the early stages of World War II, the 15th supported the Field Artillery School in Oklahoma. On March 26, 1944, the unit deployed to England and began combat operations over France. Its first combat mission was photographic reconnaissance on an F-6. On June 6, 1944, the 15th received credit for the first aerial victory by a tactical reconnaissance pilot as well as the first victory of D-Day. The unit continued armed reconnaissance operations in the European theater until July 1945.

The squadron was recently redesignated the 15th ATTACK Squadron on 15 May 2016 from it's prior designation, the 15th Reconnaissance Squadron.
