Pittsburgh 171st Air Refueling Wing canvas art.

The 171st Air Refueling wing is composed of the 146th and 147th air refueling squadron. The 171st air refueling wing is part of Air Mobility Command and is the only “Super Tanker” wing in the Air National Guard comprised of 16 KC-135R/T aircraft. The primary mission of the 171st Air Refueling Wing is to provide in-flight refueling to Department of Defense and NATO aircraft. In doing so, provides resources for global engagement, meeting national objectives, and assisting local and state authorities at the direction of the governor. The 171st also supports the Homeland Defense mission on a daily basis. The secondary mission is cargo and passenger transportation. In performing this secondary mission, the tankers are continuously called upon to airlift cargo and passengers worldwide. It is not unusual for several of aircraft to be deployed simultaneously to various locations around the globe performing real-world missions (refueling and airlift).
