<p><span style="color: #000000;"><b>Davis–Monthan Air Force Base</b> (<b>DM AFB</b>) is a U.S. Air Force base 5 miles south-southeast of downtown <strong>Tucson, Arizona</strong>. It was established in 1925 as <b>Davis-Monthan Landing Field</b>. The host unit for Davis–Monthan AFB is the 355th Wing assigned to Twelfth Air Force, part of Air Combat Command. The base is best known as the location of the Air Force Materiel Command's 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group, the aircraft boneyard for all excess military and U.S. government aircraft and aerospace vehicles.</span></p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;">The <b>A-10 Thunderbolt II</b> is a single-seat, twin turbofan engine, straight wing jet aircraft developed for the United States Air Force. It is commonly referred to by the nicknames <strong>"Warthog"</strong> or "Hog".<sup id="cite_ref-5" class="reference"></sup> The A-10 was designed for close air support of friendly ground troops, attacking armored vehicles and tanks, and providing quick-action support against enemy ground forces.</span></p>

<p><span style="color: #000000;">The <strong>79th Rescue Squadron</strong> operates the <strong>HC-130J <em>"Combat King II"</em></strong> and provides rapidly combat personnel recovery forces to theater commanders worldwide. It conducts helicopter air-to-air refueling, airdrop and airland of pararescue personnel and/or equipment in support of combat personnel recovery. Its crews are capable of landing on short, unimproved runways and conducting low-level operations during daytime missions, or night with the aid of night vision goggles.</span></p>

This wing's combat mission is providing <strong>A-10 Thunderbolt II</strong> close air support and <strong>OA-10 forward air controllers</strong> to ground forces worldwide. The 355 FW provides initial and recurrent training to all U.S. Air Force A-10, OA-10 and EC-130 pilots and crews. The 355th is also the ACC's executive agent for INF and START treaty compliance.</span></p>

Its current assignment is with the <strong>55th Electronic Combat Group</strong>, being stationed as a tenant unit at its host wing <strong>Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona</strong> as a geographically separated unit from its parent wing,<strong> Offutt AFB, Nebraska</strong>. The squadron is one of the oldest in the United States Air Force, its origins dating to 14 June 1917, being organized at Kelly Field, Tex. It served overseas in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. The squadron saw combat during World War II, and became part of the Tactical Air Command (TAC) during the Cold War.</span></p>

Directs all EC-130H aircrew initial academic and flying qualification, difference and requalification training for 20 different aircrew specialties with more than 200 aircrew students trained annually. Provides registrar support to students. Maintains quality control for all aspects of contracted aircrew training and manages courseware development for 17 Air Combat Command-verified syllabi. Provides the group with simulator support for both continuation and initial qualification training.</span></p>
