Avon Park AF Range Florida

Avon Park AF Range Florida poster art.

Avon Park Air Force Range is a 106,000-acre United States Air Force air-to-ground training complex located in Central Florida. Avon Park is the largest primary-training range East of the Mississippi. In addition to two tactical ranges, two conventional ranges and multiple small arms and machine gun ranges, Avon Park also has an 8,000 foot runway. The 598th Range Squadron runs Avon Park Air Force Range, which is a geographically separated unit of the 23d Fighter Group, 23d Wing, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia. The 598th Range Squadron traces it’s history back to the 598th Bombardment Squadron, which was founded at Avon Park Air Force Range in 1943 and flew B-26 Marauders throughout the European Theater during World War II. The Florida Army National Guard also maintains a permanent ground support facility at APAFR.

Avon Park Air Force Range’s mission is to provide a sustainable, world-class training complex focused on advanced, realistic and relevant training for joint, interagency, and multinational partners and excelling in air-ground integration. Avon Park facilitates an air-to-ground training range where they pair up ground personnel (JTACs) with air assets (A-10s, F-16s, etc…).
