Detachment 115, known as “Snake Eyes Five,” is an Air Force ROTC unit composed of more than 50 cadets who are full-time students across several universities in the region. The detachment is headquartered at the University of Connecticut and includes cross-town participation from the University of Rhode Island, Central Connecticut State University, Connecticut College, Eastern Connecticut State University, and the University of Hartford. The Detachment 190 AFROTC Unit is located at the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign (UIUC). They train and mentor UIUC students into becoming future officers of U.S. Air Force or U.S. Space Force and are located 15 miles south of the decommissioned Chanute Air Base, which trained the first squadron of Tuskegee Airmen during WWII. The 356th Fighter Group is an inactive United States Air Force organization. Its last assignment was with the Army Service Forces, being stationed at Camp Kilmer, New Jersey. It was inactivated on 10 November 1945. During World War II the group was an Ninth Air Force fighter unit stationed in England.

The 358th Fighter Squadron (358 FS) is part of the 355th Fighter Wing at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, Arizona. It operates A-10 'Thunderbolt II' aircraft conducting close air support missions. The 358th conducts all formal course directed aircraft transition, day and night weapons and tactics employment, day and night air refueling, and dissimilar air combat maneuvers. The squadron trains pilots to plan, coordinate, execute, and control day and night close air support, air interdiction and battlefield surveillance and reconnaissance.
