413 Transport and Rescue Squadron (413 SQN) conducts search and rescue and airlift throughout an1,800,000 square mile area in eastern Canada. As the primary air search and rescue unit on Canada's East Coast, 413 Squadron crews cover an area extending from the south of Nova Scotia, north to Iqaluit on Baffin Island as far west as Quebec City and east out to the middle of the Atlantic. 413 Sqn flies the CC-130H Hercules (Retired in 2026), CH-149 Cormorant and CC-295 Kingfisher.

The 321st Contingency Response Squadron is a part of the 621st Contingency Response Wing and is located at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. The 109th Medical Group is part of the 109th Airlift Wing at Stratton Air National Guard base in Scotia, NY. It operates the only ski - equipped LC-130 Hercules in the DoD inventory. Missions include supporting missions in Antarctica and Greenland, supporting National Science Foundation. The Medical Group ensures the readiness of members with 18 different career fields. On 1 October 2003, the three combat search - and - rescue squadrons fell under the command of the 563d Rescue Group . The 355th Fighter Wing was redesignated 355th Wing on January 2, 2019. The 355th Fighter Wing currently provides air assets to Air Expeditionary unit commanders involved in operations around the globe, as part of the Global War on Terrorism.

Air crews are trained in night low - level flying, using night vision goggles to deliver troops and equipment into denied areas during adverse weather conditions at night by airdrop or landing.

On April 17th 2020, the 1st SOS assumed responsibility for the fleet of MC - 130J commando IIs previously assigned to the 17th SOS. This has led to the need of an update to the aircraft on the following slides.
