The 911th Air Refueling Squadron is part of the 6th Air Mobility Wing at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida. The squadron is geographically separated from the 6th AMW and operates as the active duty associate to the 916th Air Refueling Wing from Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina. The squadron is one of the oldest in the United States Air Force, its origins dating to 15 May 1917, being organized at Kelly Field, Tex. It served in France as part of the 3d Air Instructional Center, American Expeditionary Forces, as a pilot training Squadron during World War I. The squadron saw combat during World War II, and became part of the United States Air Forces in Europe during the Cold War.
