Norfolk Virginia Sub

This vintage art deco style military naval travel poster “Norfolk Virginia Sub” is dedicated to all those who served at Naval Station Norfolk.

Naval Station Norfolk, in Norfolk, Virginia, is a US base supporting naval forces in the United States Fleet Forces Command, those operating in the Atlantic Ocean, Mediterranean Sea, and Indian Ocean. NS Norfolk, also known as the Norfolk Naval Base, occupies about four miles of waterfront space and seven miles of pier and wharf space of the Hampton Roads peninsula known as “Sewell’s Point” and is the world’s largest naval station.

The Los Angeles class (also known as the 688 class) is a class of nuclear-powered fast attack submarines (SSN) in service. They represent two generations and close to half a century of the U.S. attack submarine fleet. As of late 2015, 39 of the class are still in commission and 23 retired from service. Of the 23 retired boats, 14 of them were laid up half way (approximately 17–18 years) through their projected lifespans due to their midlife reactor refuelings being cancelled.
