The 815th Weather Reconnaissance Squadron (815 WRS), “Storm Trackers”, was a unit of the Air Force Reserve Command’s 920th Tactical Airlift (later 920th Weather Reconnaissance) Group at Keesler AFB, Mississippi until 1973.  It then operated under the 403d Rescue and Weather Reconnaissance (later 403d Tactical Airlift; 403d Airlift) Wing until 1983.  It operated the WC-130E/H Hercules providing weather reconnaissance, including flying into hurricanes to collect atmospheric data.  The squadron is now designated the 815th Airlift Squadron (815 AS) with the mission of providing theater airlift.  The mission of the 815 AS is to conduct airlift, airdrop, and aeromedical evacuation operations.  The squadron name is the “Flying Jennies”Keesler AFB, established in 1941, is located in Biloxi, Mississippi along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is less than one hour from New Orleans.
