Erbil, Iraq 1-111th GSAB MH-60M

Erbil, Iraq 1-111th GSAB MH-60M poster art.

Moose Platoon, Charlie Company (AA), 1-111th General Support Aviation Brigade (GSAB) is a MEDEVAC unit deployed in Erbil, Iraq. They are composed of different guard units from Massachusetts, Florida, and Georgia.  They fly the HH-60M Blackhawk, which is a uniquely designed model strictly used for MEDEVAC and support troops defending Kurdistan in Northern Iraq.

Erbil is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities, dating back to 5000BC. Famous landmarks include the Statue of Ibn, the Mudhafaria Minaret, and the Citadel of Erbil. Being relatively isolated in northern Iraq, the 1-111th GSAB is responsible for a wide swath of MEDEVAC coverage. Their aircrews have 15 minutes upon receipt of a mission to launch in order to MEDEVAC injured soldiers. K-1 Air Base is a former Iraqi Air Force base in the Arbil Governorate of Iraq. It was captured by Coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. K-1 was a primary air base for the Iraqi Air Force prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF). It was seized by the United States Army and was used as a Contingency Operating Location in northern Iraq.
