Diyarbakir Air Base, 1st Expeditionary Rescue Group (with patch) poster art.
The 1st Expeditionary Rescue Group (1 ERQG) is headquartered at Diyarbakir Air Base, Turkey and is part of the 332d Air Expeditionary Wing, a geographically-distributed wing across Air Forces Central Command (AFCENT) focusing on anti-Da’esh operations across the Levant (Eastern Mediterranean). The group is comprised of the 26th Expeditionary Rescue squadron which operates HC-130J Combat King II fixed wing rescue and air refueling aircraft, the 52d Expeditionary Rescue Squadron of Guardian Angel Weapons System pararescue operators and support personnel, as well as the 64th Expeditionary Rescue Squadron which operates HH-60G Pave Hawk rescue helicopters.
Diyarbakir is strategic in NATO-allied Turkey because it is in an ideal position in a friendly country for rescue assets to range across the enemy’s northern flank and quickly react to isolated personnel across Syria and Iraq. As with all U.S. Air Force Rescue units, the motto of the 1 ERQG is: “That Others May Live.”
