Ashiya Air Base, Japan 815 Troop Carrier Squadron

This “Ashiya Air Base, Japan 815 Troop Carrier Squadron” vintage style military aviation Heritage Poster is dedicated to all those who served with the 815th TCS stationed at Ashiya AB, Japan (1953 to 1960).

The 815th Troop Carrier Squadron (Medium) (815 TCS), “Flying Jennies”, was a unit of the Air Force Far East Command’s 483rd Troop Carrier Wing (483 TCW) Group at Ashiya AB, Japan from 1953 to 1960.  It operated the C-119 Flying Boxcar and then converted to the C-130A Hercules. It provided intra-theater airlift within the Pacific supporting combat operations in both Korea and Vietnam.  The squadron is now designated as the 815th Airlift Squadron (815 AS) with the mission of providing theater airlift.  The mission of the 815 AS is to conduct airlift, airdrop, and aeromedical evacuation operations.  The squadron name is the “Flying Jennies”.  Keesler AFB, established in 1941, is located in Biloxi, Mississippi along the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is less than one hour from New Orleans.
