Andersen AFB Guam 9th EBS, B-1B poster art.

The 9th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron (9 EBS – also known as “The Bats”) is a United States Air Force bomber squadron deployed to Andersen AFB, Guam, from Dyess AFB, Texas.  It operates the B-1B Lancer, also known as the Bone, in support of the Continuous Bomber Presence mission in the western Pacific Area of Operations.  “The Bats” are the oldest bomb squadron in the Air Force, turning 100 on 14 June 2017!  To the Bats!!!

Andersen Air Force Base is located approximately 4 miles  northeast of Yigo near Agafo Gumas in the United States territory of Guam. Along with Naval Base Guam, Andersen AFB was placed under the command of Joint Region Marianas on October 1, 2009. The two bases are about 30 miles away at opposite ends of the island. Administration offices for Joint Region Marianas are about half-way in between, at Nimitz Hill.

The Rockwell B-1 Lancer is a supersonic variable-sweep wing, heavy bomber used by the United States Air Force. It is commonly called the “Bone” (originally from “B-One”). It is one of three strategic bombers in the USAF fleet as of 2017, the other two being the B-2 Spirit “Stealth Bomber”, and the B-52 Stratofortress.
