Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron FIVE (HSC-5) “World Famous Nightdippers” is assigned to Norfolk, Virginia. It operates the MH-60S “Knighthawk” in support of Carrier Air Wing SEVEN (CVW-7) and Carrier Strike Group EIGHT. It’s various missions include Search and Rescue, Personnel Recovery, Anti-Surface Warfare, Special Operations, Logistics and MEDEVAC support. Erbil, also spelt Arbil or Irbil, and also known as Hewler, is the capital city of Erbil Governorate and of Iraqi Kurdistan. It is located approximately 350 kilometres (220 miles) north of Baghdad. Its governorate has a permanent population of approximately 1.61 million as of 2011. Human settlement at Erbil can be dated back to possibly 5000 BC, and it is one of the oldest continuously inhabited areas in the world. K-1 Air Base is a former Iraqi Air Force base in the Arbil Governorate of Iraq. It was captured by Coalition forces during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. K-1 was a primary air base for the Iraqi Air Force prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom (OEF). It was seized by the United States Army and was used as a Contingency Operating Location in northern Iraq.
