Established at NAS Jacksonville, Florida on 1 November 1977. VR‐58 transitioned from the C‐9B Skytrain to the Boeing C‐40A Clipper, the newest airframe in the Navy inventory as of April of 2002. VR‐58 is nicknamed the “Sunseekers”. VR‐58 flies support missions for military operations like Northern Watch, Desert Shield/Storm as well as humanitarian missions for Tsunami Relief, US Hurricane Relief and Pakistan Earthquake Relief.
In addition, the “Sunseekers” are often tasked to fly Congressional Delegations and their staffs on worldwide missions. Naval Air Station Jacksonville or NAS Jacksonville is a military airport located four miles south of the central business district of Jacksonville, Florida. The C-40 Clipper is a military version of the Boeing 737-700C airline transport. It is used by both the United States Navy and the United States Air Force.
