138th Avn Co Memorial – RU-21A

138th Avn Co Memorial – RU-21A poster art.

The 138th Army Security Agency Company (Aviation) was constituted in the Regular Army as the 138th Aviation Company and activated at Da Nang, Vietnam on 1 June 1966.  Post-Vietnam, the 138th Avn Co became the 138th ASA Co (Avn) at McCoy AFB, Orlando FL on 15 Apr 1974 and was assigned to the 81st US Army Reserve Command. Subsequently, McCoy AFB became the Orlando, FL International Airport. In 1990, the 138th Aviation Company was activated and deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation Desert Storm. Deactivated in 1999, the unit was reactivated in 2004 as the 138th Military Intelligence company, providing US Army personnel as aircrew on board E-8C Joint Stars aircraft based at Robbins AFB Georgia.

Today, Veterans of the 138th are working to restore an RU-21A, tail number 67-18113, an aircraft that flew countless Cold War, Counter Drug and combat reconnaissance missions in the first Gulf War to display at Orlando International Airport.
